How to discern the reception of spiritual guidance?
1. When receiving messages from high spirits, how can one identify which deity is providing guidance? ~ In fact, every practitioner encounters this phenomenon and shares the same doubts. In our spiritual practice, practitioners will inevitably experience training in receiving higher messages and insights, but how many can interpret them accurately? The level of accuracy depends on the role played by the individual as a spiritual being. Can one interpret the conveyed messages from an impartial and selfless perspective (without ego attachment or attachment to methods)? This is a crucial factor.
2. Is it merely the voice of one’s own spirit? Are these messages correct, or are they just thoughts stemming from one’s inner thought patterns? ~ How should practitioners analyze and judge this subtle phenomenon? From our experience: firstly, we must differentiate the received messages based on their energy levels—whether they come from high spirits or guiding spirits. The messages sent by one’s own spirit do not possess energy levels.
Another detail to pay attention to is that practitioners must constantly require themselves to maintain an objective perspective at all times, avoiding subjective consciousness, not forcing interpretations, and not having greedy desires when interpreting messages. Only then can the received spiritual insights be interpreted more objectively and accurately.
When practicing Taoism or engaging in spiritual cultivation while receiving training, tempering, and assessments from higher realms, one must also pay attention to a key point: during a practitioner’s cultivation process, there will be many tests that blur the line between truth and falsehood; these are wisdom challenges. One must not be caught off guard without realizing it!
Completely believing in the messages given by higher realms is also incorrect; doubting them is wrong too because there is reality within illusion and illusion within reality. This leads many spiritual beings to remain trapped in illusions and fantasies. Where do these illusions come from? They are manifested from deep within one’s subconscious mind; you could say they are true or false.
There was once a friend of mine who had a special sensitivity to spiritual phenomena over ten years ago. She had never been exposed to orthodox practices nor did she enjoy reading—let alone delving deeply into Buddhist or Taoist classics (in fact, she could be considered an airborne troop who learned without a teacher).
She also possessed telepathy and could see into the invisible realm but was overly confident in her ability to receive accurate information without ever questioning it. If we were to explore deeper, it stemmed from greed for recognition and a desire for self-exposure—a longing for praise.
After nearly ten years of busyness, she found herself merely planting others’ fields of blessings while her own garden was overgrown with weeds. All along she had been helping others with ancestral transcendence work for their ancestors’ souls but ended up with her own ancestors still untranscended!
She herself was even haunted by those souls she had helped transcend over those years—there were more than a hundred souls hiding in her body’s energy center! With so many souls hiding inside her for so long, it took three stages before they could be successfully sent away. Moreover, the final ritual required authorization and guidance from High Divine Master Xuanling before all could be purified and transcended.
Whether engaged in tangible matters or intangible ones, we should avoid thinking that deities are omnipotent (deities have roles just like doctors in hospitals; they are not all-powerful). We should not try to take on everything ourselves; we should always “act according to our abilities”!
Among practitioners we encounter, those who carry missions or have abilities often do not wish to engage in divine affairs; meanwhile those without such missions often prefer roles associated with divine duties—what an oddity this world presents!
3. How can one cultivate oneself to gain true discernment ability? ~ This question requires foundational knowledge of Buddhism and Taoism; one should read classics written by enlightened sages as well as wise teachers regularly while practicing meditation or Zen sitting consistently. With correct classics as guidance alongside gradual instruction from wise teachers leading deeper into hidden practices like “Purifying Life’s Essence,” one must first resolve past debts owed through previous lives’ grievances before moving on (if there are no debts owed then that would indeed be best).
Next comes helping spirits establish protective nets like “Vajra Body Protection.” How does one cultivate this? Wonderful Heart teachings state: stillness cultivates spiritual energy; movement cultivates vital energy; internal observation cultivates true energy; building foundations refines genuine fire; refining prenatal Qi at lower dantian transforms into innate non-action methods while absorbing cosmic energies opens up three gates and nine orifices.
Wonderful Heart teachings further state: pure Yang Qi flows smoothly like rivers; prenatal Eight Trigrams position Heaven and Earth correctly; unity between heaven and humanity connects through golden threads; energy information transmits heavenly intentions; cultivating virtue resolves karmic obstacles through magical tests—all internal practices must be orally transmitted heart-to-heart for achieving heart imprinting Zen methods which validate heavenly missions at present.
How can one determine if the entity providing information is indeed a true divine presence? Remember this: if something causes you headaches accompanied by goosebumps making you feel cold—and results in dizziness or nausea—you can be 100% sure it is absolutely not a divine spirit! However, if your main deity happens to be Cold Mountain Mother or Snow Mountain Goddess—their aura exudes refreshing “true Yin Qi,” which does not induce coldness but rather feels cool and pleasant throughout your body! It may make your head tingle yet feel very comfortable—and if your body heats up that indicates it’s truly a divine presence! Some higher-level deities might even induce dizziness… yet that sensation feels quite pleasant!
