Key Points for a Day of Practice

A Day’s Practice Essentials

Before starting the day’s work in the morning, I remind myself that everything I do today with body, speech, and mind must not deviate from the right path. I aim to benefit others and continuously expand this aspiration.

In the evening, before going to bed, I reflect on myself: Did I accomplish the plan I set in the morning? If everything I did was rooted in the right intention, I should think that I did well today; I did not waste my time, and my heart is filled with joy as I rejoice in my merits. This will give me even more motivation to move forward. If things didn’t go well, then I should think: “Oh! How terrible! I knowingly neglected my practice and succumbed to distractions and afflictive habits. In which areas did I fall short? I did not fulfill my promises.” By feeling this self-reproach while adjusting my mind, I vow not to make the same mistakes tomorrow. This is what constitutes a day of practice.
