The Heart Mantra of Guru Padmasambhava
Before Guru Padmasambhava was about to leave Tibet in the 8th century CE, he foresaw the future degenerate age of the Dharma, when sentient beings would face many disasters, diseases, wars, and mental suffering. To benefit beings of later generations, he transformed countless profound teachings, rituals, and mantras into “terma,” sealing them in Tibet’s mountains, rocks, space, or in the minds of disciples, and prophesied that future disciples with the proper karmic connection (terton, treasure revealers) would rediscover them.
Four Major Benefits:
- Eliminates outer, inner, and secret obstacles: It removes external disasters (such as fire and floods), internal physical illnesses, and secret mental disturbances and demonic obstacles.
- Pacifies disasters and calamities in the degenerate age: According to the scriptures, this mantra can pacify plagues, famine, and wars of weapons and soldiers in the degenerate age, transforming the inauspicious magnetic field of a place.
- Increases merit, longevity, and wisdom: Those who recite it can receive the protection and support of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as wealth deities and Dharma protectors, so that wealth, fame, health, and wisdom naturally increase.
- Quickly attains liberation and Buddhahood: At the time of death, one can receive Guru Rinpoche’s guidance and be reborn in the Pure Land of Oddiyana (Guru Rinpoche’s Pure Land) or in Sukhavati, ultimately attaining unsurpassed Bodhi.
