Awakening of the Spirit (4)
The body becomes more sensitive. This is the greatest confusion during the initial awakening of the spirit. One can sense the existence of the Dharma realm and can also receive information from it.
There are benevolent Dharma realms categorized as messages from deities and Buddhas. They seem to guide you in practicing the sacred path and sacred teachings, and they may allow you to witness miraculous events.
They can also grant you special abilities, as if there is a sense of spiritual power. They hope you will fulfill your Bodhisattva aspirations, promote the sacred path, save all beings, and help those in need.
This causes those who are newly awakened to bear an unbearable weight in their daily lives, feeling anxious and unsettled. When encountering malevolent Dharma realms, one may feel physical discomfort, experience hiccups or nausea.
The body feels heavy with dizziness, pain, soreness, and discomfort. {One should first seek medical attention to rule out physiological issues}. The temperament becomes strange—angry, irritable, depressed—with unpredictable emotions. Thoughts often dwell in negativity.
Sadness leads to tears; any unfavorable situation causes frustration. They cannot listen to others’ words and tend to blame others for their faults. Often expressing a desire for death; those heavily disturbed may resort to self-harm.
Those with sensitive constitutions often find themselves in a state of unease because they cannot discern whether that information or feeling is true or false. They are swayed by these feelings and seek help or answers externally.
Asking questions here and there leads to more confusion; it only makes their hearts more chaotic because they cannot find answers outside themselves while neglecting to learn from ancient wisdom left by our ancestors. All wisdom is contained within the classics.
They refuse to humbly study these classics and instead focus solely on seeking answers externally. Confucius said: “Respect ghosts and spirits but keep your distance.” Yet today’s people do the opposite—seeking deities everywhere for guidance—resulting in an even more chaotic personal magnetic field and intensified disturbances.
With an unsettled heart, who can help you find peace? No one but yourself can calm your own heart. The scriptures say: “A single thought creates three thousand realms.” Conditions arise based on intentions of good or evil.
A single good thought connects with the benevolent Dharma realm; naturally, deities respond accordingly. A single unwholesome thought connects with the malevolent Dharma realm; spirits come uninvited in response. If one’s inherent wisdom (Prajna) does not manifest, there will be no wisdom available for worldly matters.
If one’s own heart remains undecided between good and evil, both Buddhas and demons will respond without distinction. A slight deviation leads one into illusion—all due to one’s own actions of good or evil. By maintaining a pure heart in a clear state of mind, one naturally has Prajna responding to worldly matters.
