The seventh day of the seventh lunar month is the birthday of the God of Examinations (魁星爺). The God of Examinations, also known as Kuaixing or Da Kuaixing Jun, is the guardian deity of those who pursue knowledge. He presides over literary fortune, and like the God of Literature, he is deeply respected among scholars. His brush is specially used to mark the names of those taking the imperial examinations in the past; once marked, both literary fortune and official luck will follow. Therefore, scholars during the era of imperial examinations regarded him as a deity.
