Guidelines for Selecting the Deity
1. Consider the Position
Due to different positions when casting the hexagram, the interpretation of the hexagram will naturally vary. For example, when inquiring about the health of parents,
if one casts the hexagram from the perspective of their children, then the parents are considered the deity; conversely, if one casts it from the perspective of the parents, then the child’s line is regarded as the deity.
2. Consider the Purpose
Because different purposes for casting a hexagram lead to different interpretations, take buying a house as an example. If it is purely for personal use as a residence, one might ask whether living there will be safe and whether the home’s energy will support them; in this case, parental lines serve as deities. However, if someone is looking to buy with investment and resale in mind, then financial lines become relevant deities. Thus, even in a single situation like purchasing a house, due to differing purposes, the chosen deities will naturally differ. Therefore, these two points are considered the highest principles for selecting deities.
