Spiritual Practice and Cultivation
Before embarking on the path of cultivation, let us first engage in self-reflection. Are there areas where we have not performed well, or have we developed a sense of retreat from the path? In today’s society, most people tend to think only in ways that benefit themselves (selfishness), neglecting the value of others’ existence.
The great path of spiritual cultivation is a gradual awakening and sudden enlightenment that arises from the inherent wisdom within our physical bodies. Practitioners of Zen meditation must strive for self-verification and liberation to escape the cycle of reincarnation within the three realms and six paths.
The accumulation of merit can be achieved through acts of giving: material giving, teaching giving, and fearlessness giving… These three forms of generosity help us accumulate merit. As our spirit reincarnates as a human being, we must first seek our original spiritual source (the origin). Once our spirit merges with our physical body, we need to begin repenting for past transgressions across lifetimes, and diligent effort is required in our practice!
Through dedicated practice: sitting in stillness, Zen meditation, concentration training, physical training, and dynamic meditation (moving Zen), studying the scriptures of enlightened beings and wise teachers, reciting mantras, and understanding their meanings (the ultimate truth)… all these sequential practices help elevate and transcend our spiritual quality.
If we are fortunate enough to open the spiritual eye within the three realms, we should maintain an attitude of gratitude to benefit sentient beings and formless entities. We should not flaunt or misuse this ability; there have been instances where individuals encountered such situations. Therefore, be cautious when engaging in playful practices; what follows may be that you will become a plaything of the law!
Opening spiritual channels cannot be seen with ordinary eyes; it primarily involves unblocking the governing vessels at this moment. However, those endowed with supernatural powers (heavenly eye or spiritual eye) can perceive the true reality within formless realms.
The wisdom eye can be categorized into tangible and intangible forms. You must first atone for your sins; your guiding master will assist you with incense to enter into meditation until you reach a stage where you embody unity with the Trinity. By forming hand seals together, manifestations can occur freely as spiritual energy begins to circulate within your physical body.
Once genuine spirits formally guide you, they can also enter meditative states. When your original spirit appears, your lineage and its origins will naturally reveal themselves. After your original spirit manifests, it will proceed along the path of future spiritual cultivation with a heart full of dedication and gratitude!
Your guiding master (enlightened teacher) should instruct you on how to proceed with your next steps in practice. To achieve something significant in this life requires being open to guidance from formless realms at all times; thereafter tests concerning your commitment to the path and diligence will follow one after another!
To verify the immortality of the soul and elevate one’s spiritual quality requires constant refinement during daily activities—whether walking, standing still, sitting down or lying down—to cultivate spirit, refine body energy (perform virtuous deeds), seek forgiveness for past wrongs while accumulating merit to repay old debts through prayer (repentance and supplication). Moreover, sincerity is essential!
Samadhi (Sanskrit: samadhi) is also known as samapatti or samadhi derived from Sanskrit phonetics; it translates into Chinese as “right concentration,” meaning to distance oneself from all evil thoughts while focusing one’s mind on one point without distraction. Generally speaking, practitioners often refer to achieving a state where their mind is concentrated—this state is called “dhyana”; distancing oneself from drowsiness while maintaining an even-minded heart is referred to as “equanimity.” Not allowing distractions while maintaining tranquility defines this state known as samadhi!
The Three Baskets refer specifically to Buddhist texts categorized into three types: Sutras (scriptures), Vinaya (monastic rules), Abhidharma (philosophical treatises). These are collectively known as “the Three Baskets” or “the Twelve Divisions of Scriptures.”
The Three Baskets also refer to the Tripitaka—the Pali Canon particularly associated with Theravada Buddhism. A highly learned monk proficient in all three baskets is called a Tripitaka Master; one who excels in Sutras is called a Sutra Master; one proficient in Vinaya is called a Vinaya Master; one skilled in Abhidharma is referred to as an Abhidharma Master.
In terms of cultivating one’s heart/mind/spirituality if there lacks guidance from an enlightened teacher’s instruction or teachings then deviations may arise regarding one’s own understanding about cultivation principles leading issues around “respecting teachers” may surface too—if relying solely on self-study then progress may be quite limited.
All practitioners possessing roots capable of understanding wisdom have accumulated blessings over many lifetimes—this isn’t easily attained! Both intangible spirituality along with tangible physicality can gradually lead everyone towards higher realms through assistance provided by divine beings.
If practitioners uphold sincerity alongside perseverance while diligently striving towards self-improvement they will naturally receive insights into cosmic mysteries’ true meanings.
A practitioner aiming for prophetic insight encompassing comprehensive knowledge must possess wise methodologies along their journey utilizing protective garments (Vajra armor) safeguarding their spirits enhancing personal energies/spiritual powers/light;
This comes through purification via spirit cleansing alongside genuine practice—through teaching others resolving doubts aiding sentient beings leading them onto paths towards enlightenment following divine instructions allows achieving aspirations tied directly back towards reincarnation goals.
However here’s something worth noting: when receiving messages from higher realms it’s crucial that one approaches content objectively taking time out reflecting calmly analyzing current tests faced by practitioners mainly involve wisdom challenges!
If lacking sufficient wisdom don’t rush into making premature judgments/decisions nor blindly follow others’ leads since trials posed by higher realms assess whether you possess adequate judgment skills analytical capabilities execution strength—those overly zealous students often charge ahead fastest but usually meet demise quickest too!
Through cultivating merits accumulating virtues repaying longstanding grievances achieving “physical liberation” elevating purifying spirituality gradually leads toward “spiritual liberation” which many practitioners aspire toward!
Nonetheless willingness determination perseverance along with “supportive conditions” are essential prerequisites needed genuinely grasp these hard-earned opportunities—a blessing indeed for us seekers!
Motivated aspirants quietly toil away if they fail recognizing importance exerting efforts introspecting diligently refining both physique inner essence outer skills nurturing vitality-spirit essence practices (“alchemy”);
If unable attain self-salvation awaken others how could they guide lost souls? Furthermore inadvertently generating more karma complicates matters further how could they truly aid others?
Self-cultivation rooted within innate nature initiates true inner growth failing daily improvement leads diminishing light over time—it’s said Buddha Dharma comprises “84 thousand methods” established addressing various afflictions faced by sentient beings throughout existence!
The Dao encompasses 3600 pathways attaining just one suffices fulfilling everything—all schools converge upon ultimate truth focusing intently upon single approach guarantees eventual success ahead! While Daoist texts remain profound challenging comprehend thus necessitating gradual guidance provided by enlightened masters despite difficulties maintaining faith perseverance diligence ensures overcoming obstacles encountered along way!
The greatest concern regarding practice lies within human hearts driven by selfish desires pursuing personal agendas unaware where true Dao resides? What kind root does one’s spiritual lineage belong? Wandering aimlessly amidst illusions ultimately leads back towards nothingness so how might proper cultivation foster growth?
The reason practitioners feel lost stems largely due excessive attachment clinging tightly onto ego lacking steadfast resolve easily swayed flattery unable discern truth versus falsehood preventing self-realization hearing sweet words catering desires merely reinforces ignorance failing fulfill destiny hence obstructing progress toward enlightenment!
When inflated egos arise due excessive praise consequences manifest naturally leading arrogance once convinced own perceptions represent absolute truth accepting differing opinions becomes increasingly difficult; however drawing upon scriptures written by realized sages wise mentors supplements mental nourishment fostering awareness necessary transcending limitations elevating consciousness levels overall!
